I'm having trouble getting my copy of Machinekit configured on the
Beaglebone Black. I am currently getting the below error:

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I installed the below build:

Which was sourced from here:

https://elinux.org/Beagleboard:BeagleBoneBlack_Debian#BBW.2FBBB_.28All_Revs.29_Machinekit

If anyone can help me with this I would be eternally thankful.

Hi Peter,

Is there a reason you’ve taken the (very old) Jessie image? Why not the stretch image?

Just start with the Stretch image, which is a bit further down the page:

https://elinux.org/Beagleboard:BeagleBoneBlack_Debian#BBW.2FBBB_.28All_Revs.29_Machinekit_2

Try the Probotix configs as-is before making any changes. If the
Probotix configs don't load, try some of the other BeagleBone configs
(without any hardware attached, just the BeagleBone!) to see if they
load. I don't think the Probotix configs get a lot of testing, so
something may have gotten broken and not been noticed.

Please keep questions on the list.

I'm pretty sure the image should have a GUI, but I haven't tried the
latest Stretch download for a while and updates are being handled by
RCN. Is the HDMI out working (eg: you have a display, but it's a text
terminal console) or is there no display at all?

If there's no display at all, check the uEnv.txt file and make sure
HDMI is enabled.
Thank you for the advice. I've flashed over the stretch image, but this
one doesn't seem to have a GUI?

I grabbed the stretch image and played with it some today.

It turns out there is no GUI installed. I checked with Robert Nelson,
and he indicated the image was made at the request of a user who did
not need the GUI (or was using one of the remote user interfaces), so
it isn't included.

You should be able to install one of the desktops via Debian packages,
but that might be more work than you're wanting to tackle.

If you only want to use a remote UI, you can just launch machinekit
and specify the configuration file (so it doesn't try to launch the
configuration picker gui):

machinekit path/to/your.ini

...or you can just use the Jessie image, which has a desktop already
installed.

I'll try to find enough time over the holidays to get the stretch
image fixed up. Assistance welcome, grab the source and send pull
requests based on:
